No avoiding the heat

As we head into a stretch of over 90 degree days we want you to make sure you can still enjoy the great game of golf. Hot weather shouldn't keep you from the course. So we make sure we have several water coolers set up around the course. We also remind you to take a water bottle with and fill it up at the water cooler.

Take your time and if you feel like the heat is might be getting to much, stop for a while in the shade. Golf is suppose to be a relaxing and enjoyable sport, so enjoy the course and walk at a slower pace. Wear a light colored shirt, one that breathes. And of course, don't forget to put on sunscreen!

It's going to be hot!

They say the next couple of days are going to be really hot. So make sure if you are doing any activities let's say golf or Riverfest, be sure to hydrate. Water water water. The three words of advice I have for you. So maybe take a cart on the course, hit the water coolers we have stationed all around the course and stop and sit in our clubhouse and cool down. We want to make sure you stay safe and comfortable.

If you are going down to Riverfest remember to walk casually and enjoy the sights and sounds! Riverfest is a Coulee Region tradition and we encourage you to enjoy safely! We will be here waiting when the holiday is over! Happy Festing!

Thanks kids!

You know Father's Day was pretty typical Father's Day for me. Got wonderful calls from the kids, gifts and work. But after a day of thinking about it I realize how many people don't have the luxury of a typical Happy Father's Day. I am so happy I have my family. They are the reason I get up and work...OK, maybe a little because the dog wants to come along. Andrew, Katie, Emily...you are all so special to me and your calls make my day. Your smiles make my life. Thank you for giving me so much pleasure to watch you grown into the young adults you are. Thank you for a WONDERFUL Father's Day. I am glad I am one lucky Father!

If you haven't thought about what family means, really means to you in a while, you should. Father's Day is not just another day. It's a day to be happy to be family, a day to remind your Dad of how much he means to you and get a hug from the kids who appreciate you. Happy belated Father's Day to my Dad, to all Dad's and hug your kids today!

Hot Weather Tips

You can't escape the heat so do your best to work with it by staying hydrated. Carry a bottle of water or Gatorade with you on the course. We offer water stations, so please take advantage of them. Take it easy and walk along the shade lines of the course. Alcohol dehydrates not hydrates so limit you intake of alcohol on the course. But most important is know your limits. If you find your self exhausted and you stop perspiring immediately get back to the clubhouse and hydrate.

Saturday

It's Saturday and it's suppose to get to about 81 degrees today and a bit muggy. May people play their best golf when they are loosened up. are you one of those people? If so today will be a perfect day for you to come to Walsh Golf Center. Learn, practice, play...that is our motto.

I feel like challenging everyone. Not sure why but I want to do something different so I am going to think about it a few days then post it. So if you want to help me come up with one, stop in and tell me what kind of challenge you would put out there for golfers? Improve game by 5 strokes, golf 7 days a week, hit a bucket of balls 2x a week with your 7 iron...who knows it could be anything. I might challenge you to wear a green shirt on Fridays. Really I just am not sure...so give me ideas!

It's going to be hot today!

We are expecting some really hot weather today so you are going to want to get out early and get your round of golf in for the day. Remember to have plenty of water today to keep hydrated. A nice easy walk through the beautiful fairways and manicured greens is a wonderful way to enjoy a hot day. Doesn't it always seem a bit cooler on the golf course? So be cool, golf today!

What do you do on a day like this?

So what do you do on a day like this? I know you are all thinking about how can I connect with my golf game today when it's raining! What if tomorrow is raining, or next week?! What will you do?! I have the answer! This is when you come in and plan how to improve your game. Make plans for group lessons, get a new putter, ask me about private lessons to I can help you with your specific golf issues. I know many of you are "just fine" with the way you golf, but really, I can help! We can work on your chipping, putting, teeing off, swing, irons, woods and more. Our shop offers several top rated, quality golf clubs and I know how to match them to you. So what do you do on a day you can't be on the course...come in and ask about all the things to do to get ready to be better on the course! Remember raining days are not ALWAYS bad days for golfers, now you can get a few things done at home or work AND call me to work on your game.

What a storm!

What a storm we had here yesterday! Tornado in La Crosse and Sparta, trees and homes damaged. We are hoping all are safe. We know some were safe because immediately after some people had been waiting anxiously in a safe spot they came out and wanted to hit a bucket of balls. We even had people come out to do mini golf right away. We did get slammed with rain so the end of the driving range was a bit under water so we weren't able to accommodate those people, but you know we are here for you to lift your spirits! Who doesn't like hitting a ball at a clown face!

It's the sun!

I love sunny days! It's a great feeling to look up and say "it's the sun!". We feel like we want to do something today, something outside. We are all happier and I know many of you claim to golf better in the sun. So why is this important you ask, let me tell you....the sun is a good source for getting the vitamin D your body requires. Check out this article about vitamin D( click here) and you will see why you have to golf and you really HAVE to golf on sunny days. It's good for your health, your body and your spirit. Makes you want to jump in your car or truck and head to Walsh's. think about it, now you have an excuse to get out and play...golf at Walsh Golf Center.

Weather is lookig great!

I know it is Wisconsin so don't be shocked when they said we may have 3 days in a row of good weather! I know! I am elated. So call and reserve your tee time because this week is going to be perfect! I am waiting...781-0838!

More than a Mother's Day Ccelebration!

Wasn't Mother's Day a beautiful day! We had many Mom's with families here and it was great to see everyone spending time together. I was was lucky enough to share that day with many of those I love. Part to pay tribute to the Mom's in our lives and part to help me celebrate turning 50! If you ask me it's no big deal but for some reason other's think it's monumental. I did have a wonderful dinner with family and they have reminded me how wonderful it is to have family close. To my Mom, thank you raising me to be the kind of man I think you are proud of and for being there for all of my 50 years. (and I think she still even likes me!) To the rest of my family...thank you, I am proud you are my family! It was a great day and a even more special evening!

Praise from New York!

We had a golf course superintendent here from New York the other day and he said "I've played a lot of nine hold golf courses but never one this nice". Wow! We feel honored for the compliment and some of the staff were excited when he stopped them and praised them for the great job they are doing. I do have a great staff and we hope as a team we are bringing you a course you love to play!

Mother's Day Weekend

Looks like this is going to be a great weekend! Finally...warm weather!
Mother's Day looks to be a perfect day to enjoy with Mom so bring Mom out for a round with the family. Hit a bucket of balls, or buzz around the mini golf course. Much to do and lots of golf gift ideas!

Ah come on! It's only a little chilly out there. Just think if you come out today and golf you will have one more day than the rest of the area on the golf course. Don't let a little chilly weather keep you from doing one of your favorite things! Remember we do have hot coffee on in the clubhouse! Sunny Day!

I hope you all had a great Easter. many of you I got to see as families came out for mini/goofy golf. Some hit the tee boxes for a bucket or two and many strolled the course! All and all a pretty darn good day!

Did you see it? That would be the sun!! Yeah the sun is here! Come out today and hit a bucket or play a quick round. You could just sit and watch the others hit a bucket of balls but what fun would that be! You might was well be right along side them, weren't you told how good exercise is for you? Does it take movement to swing a club? You can't tell me that doesn't qualify for exercise. Now walk the course for that quick nine and wha-la, you just wiped out that cappuccino! Seriously, where can you find this much fun for so little!

Snow is gone!

The snow is gone...it is amazing what a few hours will do in Wisconsin! Watch for your window to get out and hit a bucket this weekend! You know that a family that golfs together...has a lot more fun than others!

Putting not good today!

So the putting green is a bit rough today. But the weather is getting warmer so it's going away fast...really it is! I think we have sun in the forecast...for JUNE! Man this stinks! So watch how fast it disappears because we are still here everyday!!

Hurry, Golf today, who knows what tomorrow will bring! We live in Wisconsin and it's April 18th and snow is redicted. Hurry, golf today!

Turn the heat back on!

Come on Mother Nature! Turn the heat back on! The golf course is greening up nicely and we may have some bits and pieces of golf time coming up so be ready and come hit a bucket of balls. Go ahead and challenge the wind. I think the wind is out there just to get you ready for a windy day later in the year when you are on the course. Yes, this is a good time to practice how the elements will effect our swing!

Spring is here!

The weather may not know it but it is spring! But really it is and this coming week sould see high's in the mid and upper 50's! The driving range is open and as soon as we have enough dry weather the course will open as well and that should be shortly. We have already had teams practicing on the putting greens and driving range. Leagues are starting to get rolling and we are taking calls already for lessons.
